TWO MEN AND A WOMAN
Lord bless Africa. May her glory be lifted high. Hear our petitions. God bless us, Your children.
Invoking Nkosi Sikelel’ iAfrika seems apt in this moment when 3 public personalities are respectively denied, recalled or ousted. The lyrics of Nkosi include five out of 11 official languages of South Africa - Xhosa, Zulu, Sesotho, Afrikaans and English. It appeals for protection and calls ALL OF US Africa’s children.
The three politicians represent age-old, yet never expired political moments. One has been denied entry into another country, one is ready to be recalled to save Johannesburg from itself and one has been ousted from his new elevated position as DG of the Zuma movement.
Julius Malema
Malema was denied a visa to enter the UK. The government decided his hate speech, calling for whites to be eliminated and supporting Hamas was just too much. I thought he would get credit for staging those parliamentary riots, which accelerated Zuma’s demise, but alas not. A few years ago this would have set off a firestorm here in South Africa. Now it is just like, Bro what did you expect? If ever a visa helped escort a ‘Big Man’ politician off the stage, our Colonial Masters did the job brilliantly.
Helen Zille
Not my cup of tea, but a political knife fighter / ninja who has no peer in South Africa. Helen Zille has apparently been approached to make herself available as mayoral candidate for Johannesburg. Even though she is pushing 75, I think she will pull the city up by its bootstraps. Redeployment in this case could just be the right medicine.
Floyd Shivambu
This learned gentleman [he already has 4 degrees and has been accepted for a doctoral] has not learned basic lessons, even though he sat at the altar of both Malema and Zuma. When others underestimate you, it can be your biggest strength. When you overestimate yourself, you are already history.
This week Shivambu was booted from the Zuma party, which he left Malema’s EFF for. Now he talks about consultations to form a new entity, but says he will never resign from Zuma’s MP. Sounds like Zuma who wanted to appeal his expulsion from the ANC whilst also being founder and chief of MK. Delusions are the fruits of overestimation.
The PASSING PARADE never takes time off.
