IT IS REPORTED that 3 high ranking officers in the Intel Community are about to be arrested. This time it is the culmination of years of meticulous “search & uncover” work by the investigators. These men were appointed by former president Zuma. Their mandates were basically to use the Crime Intelligence operations to protect Zuma, to steal as much money via secret funds and to use this, amongst other things, to finance Zuma’s final bid for ANC president and to pay for the silence of others.
Zuma and the circle around him reek of corruption, much like former president Donald Trump’s, who has had multiple members of his inner circle indicted and even jailed.
This week Eskom loomed large over the body politic of South Africa. Another legacy of the disastrous and SUPER INCOMPETENT presidency of Zuma. There is the old saying; “A fish rots from the head down” - and how true is it for Zuma. The ANC is now paying the rejection price big time, curtesy of Zuma and his infection of most towns and cities with his signature of incompetence and corruption. I agree with one observer; ‘The ANC has lost elections because of corruption and incompetence, not because of its policies’.
For some context, consider that Eskom’s debt was R40 billion at the start of Zuma’s presidency and R440 billion by the time he left. Across South Africa former ANC voters deserted the ANC in droves and over the last 10 days the ANC was dealt numerous body-blows in most of the big metros in South Africa when the combined fury of opposition parties dethroned the former liberation movement of its respective crowns. How beautiful was this to behold! Here in South Africa we call it democracy in action.
Zuma and his criminal Crime Intel Officers are heading for prison – stripped from power and their secret operations exposed to the light of day. The decisive backlash against the era of Zuma, Gupta, New Age Newspaper, Nkandla Fire Pool, Cash & Carry Minister Gigaba, Sandton Shebeen King Molefe et al, was as decisive as it was brutal. The ruling party are on Notice: Zuma might go down in history as the second last ANC President who was also President of South Africa. In the lingua of our time, it seems to me that the voters have invoked Cancel Culture to release us from the shadows and the chains of yesterday’s South Africa.
There is indeed a new dawn breaking over the national landscape. In Johannesburg – the New York of Africa – Dr. Mpho Phalatse is the new Executive Mayor, and in nearby Ekurhuleni another woman took the wheel. For those who have always accused South Africa – and Africa for that matter – of being the prime example of paternalistic rule, this week decisively cancelled that notion.
I read this in an American online publication this week. It was so true 58 years ago and it is so true in 2021:
“Let us not despair but act. Let us not seek the Republican answer or the Democratic answer, but the right answer. Let us not seek to fix the blame for the past – let us accept our responsibility for the future.” President John F Kennedy
In South Africa our KINGMAKERS have delivered us from evil and INVESTIGATORS are finally handcuffing Zuma’s Intel Chiefs – let’s give them the standing ovation they so richly deserve.
